In this simple and easy to follow tutorial I will guide you through the process of deploying Office 365 Business Premium and other Click-to-Run products from/to a network share.

Download Office Deployment Tool for Click-to-Run to a local directory, in this example I will be using C:\Office

### Step 2 – Extracting the Office Deployment Tool Files

Open command prompt and CD to the location where you saved the Office Deployment Tool, i.e. C:\Office. Type the following command in to command prompt;

officedeploymenttool.exe /extract:"C:\Office"

Press Enter and accept the Microsoft Software License Terms. Click the Continue button. You will receive a “Files extracted successfully.” message.

### Step 3 – Configuring Office Deployment Tool

In Windows Explorer navigate to the location where you extracted the files using Office Deployment Tool. You will see two files named setup.exe and configuration.xml.

Open configuration.xml with any text editor such as Notepad and replace the default template with my template below;

<Configuration>
<!-- SourcePath should be your network share - "Domain Users" require "Read" permission on the folder. OfficeClientEdition should be set to 32 or 64. -->
<!-- The language of the product -->
<Language ID="en-us" />
</Product>
<!-- Automatically accept the EULA. -->
<Display Level="Full" AcceptEULA="TRUE" />
<!-- Save and name the log file OfficeSetup.txt to the current user temp folder. -->
<Logging Name="OfficeSetup.txt" Path="%temp%" />
</Configuration>

Save the modified configuration.xml file.

Now we have specified our products inside configuration.xml, it is time to download and install them.

Note: Make sure you have “Write” permission set on the network share specified inside configuration.xml.

Navigate to the extracted files directory within command prompt, i.e. C:\Office and type the following commands;

setup.exe /download "C:\Office\configuration.xml"

Office Deployment Tool will begin to download the products to the network share you specified inside configuration.xml. The command will finish executing once the download is complete.

setup.exe /configure "C:\Office\configuration.xml"

Office Deployment Tool will begin to install the products from the network share you specified inside configuration.xml. A progress indicator will be shown at the bottom right of the screen. The command will finish executing once the installation is complete.

To deploy your specified products to workstations, you will need to run the “Install Products” code above using a tool such as PsExec.

Now you have the added benefit of using a network share for deployment which will not only save you time but bandwidth too!

Thank you for this guide! When you say installing it using psexec for clients do you just do something like
“psexec \\ip setup.exe /configure ‘C:\Office\configuration.xml'”

Agree x 1
1. Hi, yes that should work. You could also run the command with the /s switch for PsExec which will run the installation as the ‘SYSTEM’ user to bypass any local administrative rights.

Hope this helps.
